A few years ago, AI was something you played with on a Friday afternoon out of curiosity. A fun add-on, not something your business actually needed to run. That's not quite where we are anymore.
For a growing number of business owners, it's quietly become part of how the job gets done, not because it's exciting (it is!), but because it's genuinely useful enough that going without it now costs something.
Ask @Jay!
3 reasons why that shift is real:
Businesses using AI well are running a little easier than the ones that aren't. Deloitte's research found intermediate AI adopters operating 45% more profitably than businesses that haven't started (Nov 2025). Because they are working a little smarter with the time they have. => Be curious and have fun.
That doesn't mean any AI use works, though. MIT's research found 95% of AI projects fail to deliver a result (Aug 2025), mostly because a tool got bought before anyone worked out the actual problem it was meant to solve. => Get clarity before you start spending money.
And your own clients have more access to information than they used to. The Conversation reported that roughly half of Australians already use AI personally (Nov 2025). That doesn't replace the relationship you've built with them, but it does mean some of what used to be worth paying you for, they can now find out for free.
None of that is dramatic. It's just enough of a shift from "nice to have" to "must-have".
In most businesses, the gap shows up quietly. Either nobody's shown the owner which part of AI actually matters for their specific role, so nothing ever starts. Or the tools don't talk to each other, there's no clear read on how the week's actually going, and decisions get made on gut feel because the data's scattered across 5 places nobody has time to check.
The businesses making this shift early aren't doing anything dramatic. They're mapping where their time and money are actually going before spending anything, then fixing one real pain point at a time.
Action points:
Create a free account with the AI platform of your choice
Describe your role, then ask it how it can support you.
